The journey that marked Charles Darwin

Robert FitzRoy, captain of the ship ‘Beagle’, sought in 1831 a gentleman of good family and interested in science for shipment worldwide. He spoke with John Henslow, a botanist at the University of Cambridge, that he recommended to his pupil Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882). Thus began the journey that, as recognized years later in his autobiography, marked the life and career of the father of modern biology and author of ‘The Origin of Species’ and, incidentally, the history of mankind. Most victims were pedestrians

The two attacks came in a crowded area and time with many people in the street. Officials said yesterday that much of the dead were people walking on the spot for the area of the blasts, along with city officials who were working inside the buildings. (more…)

Baghdad suffered the bloodiest attacks since two years ago

Slaughter in Iraq. At least 132 people were killed and over 500 injured in two brutal terrorist attacks by suicide bombers in vehicles in central Baghdad. The high death toll makes the two explosions yesterday in the deadliest since 2007 and take place three months after U.S. troops would stop patrolling the cities. (more…)

Cofrentes pre-alert declared after the opening of a valve not provided

NPP Cofrentes, within the province of Valencia, reported yesterday that the Nuclear Safety Council at 12.12 hours there was opening a relief valve in the primary circuit of the plant, forcing the pre-alert state emergency. (more…)
