NPP Cofrentes, within the province of Valencia, reported yesterday that the Nuclear Safety Council at 12.12 hours there was opening a relief valve in the primary circuit of the plant, forcing the pre-alert state emergency.
As reported by the CSN, the valve was closed in the four minutes after cutting its power supply, leading to the pre-alert emergency. The Council said that all the safety systems performed as planned installation and that the plant was functioning “normally” and 77 percent of Darkfall Enchanting.
Following the protocols established, they proceeded to conduct a review and analysis to “identify and address” the causes of an incident that, according to the CSN did not raise any impact on the workers, the public or the environment.
The latest incident reported by the owner of the plant dates back to May 5, when at 1325 hours there was an automatic reactor shutdown caused by a shutdown of the turbine. Also this time the all safety systems functioned properly.
Basic in the energy map
Cofrentes plant owned by Iberdrola, is a staple in the energy map of the Valencian Community. Produces an average of 8,300 million kWh per year to allow domestic power supply of five million inhabitants.
At the same time, the production of energy prevents the emission into the atmosphere of almost seven million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
According to the Nuclear Forum, the carbon dioxide emissions in Spain are 35% above the commitment set in the Kyoto Protocol, a figure that without the nuclear plants currently in operation, would soar to levels close to 60%.
Cofrentes directly employs 700 people and generates an additional 300 indirect jobs. Moreover, the economic impact in the Valley of Ayora Cofrentes is seven million euros per year.
